Hopefully these options will allow you to tailor your day to suit both your own requirements and those of any one else that will be coming along to support you – your answers to the questions will also allow us to organise the ferries and buses as required, along with parking etc.

Ferry Tickets

· Swimmers registering at St Mawes will automatically get a ticket for the ferry to Falmouth prior to the start

· Swimmers registering at Falmouth should indicate if they require a return ticket for the ferry back to Falmouth once they have completed their swim - there is no charge for this ticket

· Supporters are able to purchase tickets as required - these tickets are for a single journey so please indicate the number for both the outward and return journey.

· Discounted tickets for the ferry will also be available to your supporters on request - these will be £3 per journey.

Hopefully this clarifies things and will allow us to ensure we have a good picture of the number of tickets required and will allow us to let the ferry company know the volume of passengers expected.

For those of you that are also taking part in the 10km Cross Country Run an additional bag will be provided for your running equipment etc.

Once we have all this information we will send out your joining instructions which will be tailored to your requirements - if you have any other questions please do not hesitate to contact me. Contact info supplied by email, letter or you can login and contact me via tricornwall mail or post on the forum.

A close fast finish at the Castle with an estimated winning time of approx 27 minutes, which is fast for this swim, made it a great day for sea swimming in Cornwall. I added a small album of photos of the Castle swim. Login and take a viewwink

It was a good swim and very well organised. I got in second after a head to head with the guy that won it.
A few comments.
The lead boat and the guys on paddle boards were leading us in a straight line across the river.
Having ridden down to St.Mawes in the morning and then got the ferry over, it was pretty clear that the breeze affecting the St Mawes side, and the changing tide to start to ebb, were going to result in a drift from left to right as we got to St.Mawes. I was trying to head a little up river from the start, but the paddle boards kept herding me back to the right. There were loads of people over the the right that must have had a bit of a struggle into the chop and tide once they got to St Mawes side. I just think the guys on the boards should have had given us a bit more room to be able to swim upriver.
The second point is about the run add on.
This was a bit of a shambles I'm afraid to say. Having eased off a bit towards the end of the swim to prepare for the run (as we tend to do in multisport events), I was dismayed to find that the run was basically a non event. There was no concept from anyone on the beach that this was a multisport event. There was no marshalling to assist those running across to their bags, and even once we were changed, it was almost impossible to get off the beach. The path was completely blocked and nobody seemed to realise that some were now heading out on a running race. Once back to the finish, it was difficult to negotiate your way through those just getting out the water and walking in to the harbour area. When i arrived back at the finish, there was pretty much no-one there.
I think next year you should either run it as just a swimming event, or else pay serious attention to how the run section is organised.
It was despite this a very enjoyable day and a pretty good training session for 2 weeks before the UK half ironman.
